Treasure Trove Inc.’s Secrets of the Alchemist Dar

Best selling author Mike Stadther asked Kwittken & Company to quickly and efficiently generate national awareness and buzz for his boundary blurring children’s book, Secrets of The Alchemist Dar. Already out in the marketplace when Kwittken & Company got involved, the story behind the book was fascinating but complicated to intelligently convey to the media. On the face of it, the book is a children’s fantasy book, but hidden within the pages of the book are ambigrams, new languages, riddles, puzzles and optical illusions that lead the reader to real clues and real fairy rings—100 in all. The best way to describe the book is Harry Potter meets The Amazing Race_… In other words, the book didn’t fit into any easily digestible genres. So Kwittken & Company quickly set to work creating a new genre for the book, calling it “Reality Fiction.” Loosely defined, “Reality Fiction” is any book or story that seamlessly blends two distinct realities: the book’s fictional universe and the real world. In the case of _Secrets of The Alchemist Dar, by attempting to solve the clues and find the real rings each reader becomes an alternative protagonist and part of the ever evolving narrative. Armed with a new angle, Kwittken & Company quickly set up a number of highly successful media tours in strong regional markets such as Philadelphia, Chicago, Minneapolis and Phoenix among others. As the media placements began to appear, sales increased dramatically. In less than three months, Kwittken & Company helped to increase sales by over 225 percent—a dramatic development in the book business where books sales tend to drop off precipitously after the initial launch.
